Moving to Actionstep Legal Accounting Cloud FAQ

Modified on Mon, 16 Mar at 12:50 PM

Understand what to expect as Actionstep migrates current "on-premises" users of Soluno to our cloud-based Actionstep Legal Accounting platform. These FAQs cover key details about the transition process, potential impacts, and how we’re working to ensure a smooth and seamless experience for all users.

What is changing?

We are ending support for the on-premises version of Legal Accounting (formerly Soluno). Soon, your firm will move to Actionstep Legal Accounting — the cloud-hosted version of the product.

The transition will be managed by an Actionstep project manager working alongside your customer success manager (or CSM) and our migrations team. They will be in touch to agree on timing that works for your firm.

When is this happening?

Support for on-premises ends at the close of this calendar year. Migrations are taking place throughout 2026. Your CSM and project manager will work with you to schedule your migration well ahead of this end date.

Why is Actionstep making this change?

Our entire product roadmap is now built around supporting products in the cloud. The improvements we're delivering — in performance, security, and new features — are all built on cloud infrastructure and cannot be brought to an on-premises environment.

Additionally, Actionstep Legal Accounting receives weekly updates. The on-premises version does not and cannot receive these updates. Moving you to the new platform means you benefit from everything we're building, rather than falling further behind.

The differences are simple:

  • Weekly product updates — rather than the infrequent releases on-premises receives.
  • Performance improvements built specifically for larger firms.
  • SOC 2 certified, meeting the security and compliance requirements your firm needs.
  • Automated database backups, with firm access included.
  • No manual installer or upgrade process — updates happen automatically.
  • The cloud-based version also gives you access to features that may be new to you, including:
    • Memorized Transactions
    • Trust Holds
    • Powerful Reporting Improvements
    • New Integrations
    • Enhancements to improve legal and tax compliance
    • Various bug fixes

How is the performance of cloud-based version?

Performance has been an ongoing investment and has improved significantly, making it on-par with the on-premises version; in the near future, the performance will exceed the on-premises version. If you have specific requirements, raise them with your CSM or project manager before your migration is scheduled and they will make sure those concerns are addressed directly.

Actionstep Legal Accounting is SOC 2 certified. We have cloud infrastructure in both the US and Canada, so data residency requirements can be accommodated. Learn more in the Actionstep Trust Center.

If you have specific compliance obligations (e.g., Law Society requirements, insurance considerations, or data residency needs), raise these with your CSM or project manager. These will be worked through before your migration date.

How long will the migration process take?

Typically, migrations are completed within a single day. The actual changeover—when your firm switches from the on-premises system to Actionstep Legal Accounting—takes a matter of hours.

Your project manager will handle the scheduling, coordination, and logistics. Your CSM will be your point of contact throughout.

What does the migration involve?

During migration, you can expect the following:

  • Our migration team will create a backup of your on-premises data.
  • Your Actionstep Legal Accounting environment will be set up using your existing data and settings. It is an exact copy of your on-premises system.
  • At an agreed-upon time, your firm will switch over to the new system. This will involve a forced outage while you do a final backup of data and move to the final system. This typically only takes a few hours.
  • After the final switchover your team can start using the new cloud.actionstep-legalaccounting.com url.
  • Your project manager will confirm everything is working before signing off.

Is there a cost for migrating?

No. The migration is free and there will be no change to your pricing.

What happens to our remote CSV imports/exports tool (i.e. Soluno Remote/LASU)?

For now, there is no change, and your access to this tool will not be impacted. Actionstep is exploring the development of a cloud-based alternative in the future.

Who do we contact if we have questions or concerns?

Your first point of contact is your CSM or project manager. They will involve the right people as needed—nothing about this process will feel like it's happening without your input.
