Configuring a Vendor to receive 1099 forms


When you set up vendor, you can configure them to receive a 1099 form as needed at the end of the year. Follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Contacts > Contact Manager
  2. Load an existing Vendor
  3. Scroll down to the Vendor Info section, and expand.
  4. Toggle on Produce 1099
  5. Click in the 1099 form type, select the form type the vendor will require
NOTE:  If this is your first year after migrating to Legal Accounting, please fill out the Balance Date and the Balance from migration. As payables are entered and paid, Actionstep Legal Accounting will keep track of the amounts paid.

Generating a 1099


When ready to generate the 1099 forms, please navigate to Reports > Payables > 1099



 

You will see two tabs:


 Active: This tab will allow you to run the 1099 report and finalize when needed

Finalized: This tab will show you your list of finalized 1099s and allow you to re-print if required


NOTE: Legal Accounting prints onto 1099 forms in the required formatting. Please ensure you have purchased enough NEC and MISC forms to print on before beginning.


Follow these steps to run your 1099 forms:


  1. Select the Active tab
  2. Click the Down Arrow
  3. Click in the view box to select 1099 listing
  4. Set the date range as needed 
  5. If you are generating the 1099 for one specific vendor, enter the vendor in the vendor field. Leave this field blank if running for all vendors
  6. The IRS threshold will autofill to $600, but this can be changed if the tax laws change
  7. Select which form you are running the 1099s for; the NEC or MISC forms
  8. Click "Play" to run the report
    NOTE:  There are two optional toggles you can choose to toggle on if required:
    Ignore 1099 flag: This will generate a form for all vendors that meet the requirements
    Include Trust Entries: This will include trust entries onto the report/1099 form


At this point, if you would like a copy for your records, you can click the icons on the top right of the screen to export this report to CSV, Excel or PDF. 


When you are ready to print onto the official 1099 forms, click the Finalize button at the bottom left corner of the screen. This will generate a PDF that can be printed onto the forms you have loaded into your printer. 


NOTE:  Ensure the printer is set to Default size, not Fit to Page

Reprinting a Finalized 1099


Reports that have been finalized will appear in the Finalized Tab. 


  1. Click on the Down Arrow
  2. Select Finalized 1099 Forms in the view box
  3. Set the date range as needed
  4. Select to show either NEC or MISC in the 1099 form type field
  5. Click the Play button to generate the report
  6. Expand the report by clicking Details
  7. Click the paper icon to the right of the screen to generate a printable 1099.
