Q: How do I make an adjustment to the GST/HST General Ledger Account? I need to make a journal entry for rental income and it includes HST. Do I just do a journal entry to the GL for the Rental Income and then another to the GST/HST Payable GL (2400) account?
A: DO NOT do the journal entry to the GST/HST Payable GL. Do the journal entry to the Rental GL Account but for the GST/HST payable account follow the steps below to adjust the GST/HST Payable GL.
1. Click on DATA ENTRY -> OPERATING OUT;
2. Create a cheque for zero ($0.00) dollars but in the GST/HST area put in the HST Rental amount;
3. In the “GL Acct” choose an expense account;
4. Press save and acknowledge the $0.00 entry. That will adjust the GST/HST payable GL.
