Most file and contact lists in Legal Accounting come from one report. You choose a view, filter the results, and export them if you need to sort or remove columns. Use this article when you need a list of a lawyer's active files in certain areas of practice, new clients since a date, files opened in the last 90 days, or a client list with email addresses.
It also lists the report options Legal Accounting doesn't yet have.
Running a File or Contact List
To do this:
- Go to Reports > Contact > Contacts.
- Select a View.
- Set filters, such as Responsible Lawyer, Area of Practice, or the open date range.
- Click Run.
- To sort or remove columns, click Export to (top right).
- Choose Excel.
The table below describes each view.
| View | What it shows |
|---|---|
| All | All contacts |
| All Files | All files |
| All Active Files | Open files only |
| Contact Details | Contact names and email addresses. Available as an Excel export only. |
Note: The open date belongs to files, not contacts.
Tip: To count new clients, tag new files (for example, "2026") and filter by that tag.
Known Report Gaps
Legal Accounting reports can't currently show the following:
- A file's close date.
- Last activity or no activity on a file.
- Files filtered by billing contact.
- Scheduled reports.
- A month-by-month profit and loss in one report.
- An aged WIP summary, or WIP aged from the end date.
Tips:
• To find files with no recent activity, export the time
listing and the All Files view, and compare them in Excel.
• To change the font size on a report, customize the
report.
To request a report that isn't available, click your initials, then click Manage Profile > Feedback.
