Trust funds held for a client can be applied to an invoice while it is in Review Charges, transferring the money to operating as the invoice is finalized.
Before you begin:
- The file must have a balance of trust funds.
- Display the Trust Available column on the Review Charges page To do this, go to Billing > Review Charges and clicking the menu icon near the top-right corner of the page and selecting Trust Available and Trust Applied.
Note: Trust Available shows the maximum trust that can be applied to the current invoice. This is not necessarily the client's total trust balance—it is capped at the amount needed for current charges.
To apply trust funds:
- Open the file in Review Charges.
- Enter the amount of trust to apply in the Trust Applied column.
- Process the file to finalize the invoice. The transfer is created as part of the finalization.
- If the firm is in Ontario and the transfers are set to EFT, then the 9A form must be turned on in Admin settings. When this is enabled, the 9A form is sent to the Bank Admin > Batch Cheque Print tab where the 9A can be generated for the firms records.
Caution: Trust applied at billing pays current charges only. It will not clear an outstanding accounts receivable balance.
